When I was in preparing to launch Photo Kibitz, I read an article in the Ottawa Citizen, “Iconic Bowie image shoots Ottawa photographer into spotlight”. As I read the story about the portrait Bowie says is his favourite, I thought one day it would be great to interview John Rowlands.
Recently I received a call from Harry Nowell of Ottawa Studio Works. He was going to be featuring the work of John Rowlands in the gallery on June 8th, would I want to interview him? Would I? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!!
On many levels I find the story of John Rowlands fascinating. How does a 13 year old kid get hired to photograph and tour with some of the biggest musical acts of the time? How does someone sustain a career in photography for more than 50 years? And his strong passion to keep doing what he has been doing all of his life.
Ahhh, the stories his lenses can and do tell and the stories he tells can be heard in this episode of Photo Kibitz.
