While walking home from school in his hometown of Woodstock, Ontario, a sunset inspired Blair Gable to run home and pick-up the family camera. From that point he was hooked and started photographing everything he could. Blair apprenticed with photojournalist Jason Ransom at the local newspaper and he had over a years experience in news photography before enrolling in the photojournalist program at Loyalist College.
Today, as an award winning independent photographer, Blair photographs sports, news, and portraits for Canada’s largest media outlets including Reuters, Macleans Magazine, the Globe and Mail newspaper and others. Oh, and he is also an accomplished wedding photographer too!
First and foremost, Blair is a news photographer, but he also considers himself a creative entrepreneur. With emphasis on the word entrepreneur, because along the way one of the many lessons he learned was photography is a business.
One of the qualities I like about Blair is he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. With inside access to some of Canada’s and the worlds top political leaders, it would be easy for someone in his position to devote all of their time to their business and their family. But Blair hasn’t forgotten other people have given him a hand in starting his career. When time permits, Blair looks for opportunities to payback the lessons he has learned to a new generation of photographers.
